Diaphragm Pump with Leakage Detection System
Aluminum containment duty diaphragm pumps are air-operated and include a diaphragm failure alarm system. Each side of the pump uses a main diaphragm and a backup diaphragm, with a sealed leak detection chamber between them. In normal operation, the main diaphragm stays in contact with the liquid and creates the suction and discharge cycle, while the backup diaphragm provides an extra sealing layer behind it.
If the main diaphragm is damaged by abrasive particles, chemical corrosion, or long-term material fatigue, the liquid enters the leak detection chamber first instead of reaching the air chamber or leaking outside the pump. Once liquid enters the detection chamber, the float switch closes the contact and activates the alarm, so operators can stop the process and inspect the pump before leakage leads to product loss or safety risks.
- The backup diaphragm acts as a second barrier if the main diaphragm is damaged. Instead of leaking out immediately, the fluid remains inside the detection chamber, where the alarm system can respond before the issue becomes more serious.
- Aluminum containment duty diaphragm pumps are a practical choice for neutral or mildly corrosive liquids, such as oils, coatings, solvents, water, and similar fluids.
- After a diaphragm failure, the pumped medium stays separated from the air chamber. This prevents the liquid from being carried out with the exhaust air and keeps the surrounding work area safer.
