Diaphragm Pump with Leakage Detection System
Stainless steel containment duty diaphragm pumps are air-operated diaphragm pumps with an added leak detection system for diaphragm failure. Instead of using only one diaphragm on each side, each pumping chamber has a main diaphragm and a backup diaphragm. In normal operation, the pumped liquid only contacts the main diaphragm, which moves back and forth to create suction and discharge. Behind the main diaphragm, a backup diaphragm provides a secondary barrier, and the sealed space between both works as the leak detection chamber.
If the main diaphragm wears out or breaks due to particles, chemical attack, or long-term use, the liquid enters the sealed chamber first instead of reaching the air chamber or leaking outside the pump. A float switch inside the chamber detects the liquid and activates the alarm, giving operators time to stop the process and check the pump before the fluid reaches the exhaust or creates a safety risk.
- If the main diaphragm fails, the backup diaphragm keeps the liquid sealed inside the pump. Any leaked fluid stays in the leak detection chamber, where the detection system can trigger an alarm.
- 304, 316, or 316L stainless steel resists acids, alkalis, and other chemical media. When used with PTFE diaphragms, containment duty diaphragms can handle a wider temperature range and have longer service life in demanding applications.
- The double-diaphragm design keeps the liquid away from the air chamber after a diaphragm failure, so the fluid will not be carried out through the exhaust with compressed air.
